Salt Lake City, Utah –– The Salt Lake City Youth Athletic Grant (YAG), a fund supported by the Salt Lake City Corporation and Community Foundation of Utah, awarded 10 grants in October to support low-income, competitive youth athletes residing in Salt Lake City. The fund was established in 2014 and has awarded over $130,000 to local, nonprofit, competitive sports organizations since its inception.

Applications were received in September 2017 for the Fall 2017 cycle and were evaluated based on the organization’s competitive nature, fiscal responsibility, and knowledge of youth athletics. A total of $52,000 was awarded to 10 nonprofit organizations in Salt Lake City:

  • Intermountain Volleyball Association
  • Race Swami
  • Utah Tennis Foundation
  • Utah Crew
  • Olympus Aquatics Water Polo
  • Utah Rugby Academy
  • High Country Junior Volleyball Club
  • JAYHAWKS program
  • Utah Development Academy
  • Teine Malohi Softball

Utah Development Academy (UDA) was a recipient of the first Salt Lake City Youth Athletic Grant and has been awarded in every grant cycle. In their Spring 2017 Impact Report, the organization noted that the long-term success of the grant is evident when you look at all of their impact reports consecutively. “YAG has been instrumental in providing support to those city-based players most in need of additional support,” said Tyler Stockstill, Executive Director of UDA, “…[the grant] has allowed us to continue offering opportunities for youth to participate at an appropriate competitive level while maintaining a quality coaching environment.”

The Salt Lake City Youth Athletic Grant has a Spring and Fall cycle each year; the next opportunity to apply will open up in Spring 2018.
