Major Endowments Manager

The Community Foundation of Utah seeks a goal-driven candidate who possesses outstanding relationship skills, outstanding writing and communications skills, a proven track record of securing large scale private investments and donations, and a deep commitment to developing philanthropic offerings to our donors and resources for our community. The Major Endowments Manager primary functions are to significantly grow the Community Foundation of Utah’s endowed assets by identifying, cultivating and soliciting current and prospective donors for gifts, including planned gifts. This individual’s development work is key to the Community Foundation of Utah’s ability to raise significant assets annually. The Major Endowments Manager will also have primary responsibility for innovative grantmaking programs that foster philanthropic impact. Primary activities include, but are not limited to:

1. Build and Grow Endowed Funds

  • Cultivate and engage current fundholders to add new endowed gifts to their existing charitable giving portfolio.
  • Identify prospects and create and implement cultivation strategies that result in new endowed gifts.
  • Grow the Endowment Fund for the Community Foundation of Utah; identify prospects and create and implement cultivation strategies that result in new endowed gifts.
  • Grow the planned gift pipeline by $10M per year in confirmed estate plan bequests to the Community Foundation of Utah.

2. Attract Partners to Foundation Work

  • Elicit referrals through effective strategy development, implementation, active solicitation, engagement, and stewardship. Serve as a trusted resource on philanthropy solutions for donors and our community.
  • Motivate and inspire our constituents to provide referrals (staff, current donors, Board, past Board, professional advisors, etc.).

3. Deepen the Foundation's Philathropic Expertise

  • Develop effective tools to support major gift cultivation and solicitation.
  • Represent the Community Foundation of Utah in the community as a liaison for professional advisor associations and events.
  • Be the organization’s knowledge center for charitable giving options that attract larger donors.
  • Be a strong advocate and knowledge center on high net worth individual preferences, philanthropic planning tools and Foundation services.
  • Stay abreast of trends in the community foundation field.

4. Foster Innovative Grantmaking - Manage select funds and programs, including:

  • Community Impact Funds
  • Social Investors Forum
  • Invest in Success

5. Other Responsibilities

  • Special projects as assigned


  • Bachelor's degree with 7-10 years of experience 
  • Experience raising capital and successful fundraising from multiple donor channels and cultivating existing donor relationships over time
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills among diverse constituent groups
  • Ability to convey complex ideas through brief, simple materials
  • A desire to learn and grow with a “can do” attitude and desire to broaden skill set and knowledge base
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a proven ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Knowledge of all Microsoft programs and a high level of computer literacy
  • Existing knowledge of the local philanthropic landscape preferred
  • Legal training and experience preferred
