Love Utah Give Utah is Now Love Utah Give Tuesday

As the Community Foundation of Utah (CFU) begins this next chapter of Utah's annual giving day, we look forward to continuing to highlight and celebrate the great work of our state’s nonprofits.   Below are some frequently asked questions for Love Utah Give Tuesday.

Why does CFU host an annual giving day?
CFU’s mission for hosting an annual giving day is to help Utah nonprofits raise operating funds, strengthen relationships with existing donors, and connect with new donors.

How much has CFU helped fundraise for Utah’s nonprofits by hosting an annual giving day?
We are pleased to have raised over $5 million for Utah's nonprofit sector since 2013.

Why is CFU recalibrating the giving day for 2018?
While enthusiasm for Love Utah Give Utah remains strong from both new and past participants, we have heard concerns from nonprofits, individual donors, and other partners about donor fatigue and transaction fees. Total donations have declined along with the number of unique donors. We know that many nonprofits look forward to Love Utah Give Utah each year, so we have rethought our strategy for 2018.

What are the changes? 
To address concerns and develop a giving day version 2.0, we are aligning the event with Giving Tuesday (November 27, 2018) and discontinuing use of the Razoo platform.

Will another giving platform replace Razoo?
There will not be a giving platform to replace Razoo.  CFU will provide a nonprofit directory on our website linking to each organization’s donation page. Donors, then, can give directly to their desired nonprofit organizations (and donors will be directed to nonprofit websites to learn more about their great work!).

What is Giving Tuesday?
Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving that takes place on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. The event marks the start of the charitable season and is already leveraged by many nonprofits to bring in donations.

Why align with Giving Tuesday? 
Giving Tuesday is the most popular giving day nationally, and is already a time when many Utahns donate – this will streamline the giving experience for donors.  Additionally, the timing allows nonprofits to capitalize on year end gifts – most annual giving happens at year end.

Will the new giving day have an updated name and brand? 
CFU will be rebranding Love Utah Give Utah as Love Utah Give Tuesday to align with Giving Tuesday, while retaining the Utah focus and donor base.

Will fees be charged to participate? 
No. Donors will give to nonprofits directly, without the platform and administration fees assessed by Razoo (5.9%) and CFU (1.5%). This means more funds go to nonprofits!

Will there be leaderboards and leaderboard prizes? 
No. CFU will not track total amounts raised by each organization to award leaderboard prizes.  We encourage nonprofits to ask supporters for matching gift funding to incentivize giving.

What will CFU provide? 
CFU will continue to provide marketing and outreach tools, the giving day's refreshed branding and logo, a directory of participating nonprofits via our website, and promotion of the event through our media channels.

Will nonprofit organizations have assistance making this transition? 
Yes! CFU will provide a media kit, marketing and outreach tools, and more in the months to come.  Additionally we are always happy to answer any questions on how your organization can best use the program.
