Utah was one of the leading states in the closure of defunct nonprofits during the IRS purge. We saw well meaning donors wanting to grant to organizations that were no longer tax exempt. The IRS used to take six months to post the names of nonprofits that had failed to file proper paperwork for three years and therefore lost their tax exempt status.
