U.S. foundations gave an estimated $46.9 billion in 2011, surpassing the $46.8 billion in the pre-recession peak of 2008. However a new report from the Foundation Center found that after accounting for inflation, giving was slightly down from the previous year. Based on a survey of large and mid-sized foundations they found that around a third of respondents had reduced their giving last year.
The report predicts foundation giving will grow between 1 and 3 percent in 2012 and will grow modestly in 2013. However inflation is averaging just under 3 percent, meaning foundations giving levels will likely stay unchanged. For the entire article on this issue go here.
